Rainy Elopement in Muskoka

July 5, 2021

Al & AJ have wonderful memories at a family cottage in Muskoka, so they decided it was the perfect place to elope with a small & intentional group of family & friends.

On the morning of their wedding, Al & AJ wanted to take some photos together around the property. The cottage has always been sentimental to them, but it became even more special after AJ proposed to Al here. The morning was relaxing, and everyone was having a wonderful time.

Al & AJ went separate ways to get ready, and they weren’t going to see each other again until the ceremony. Al got ready with her bridesmaids, mother, and grandmother, and AJ got ready with his groomsman and soon-to-be father in law.

It was calling for rain all day, but as we watched the radar, it looked like it was going to be clear for their ceremony!

Al & AJ had the most romantic lakeside ceremony, where family stood and witnessed their vows. The rain held off, and it was perfect.

We began taking family & wedding party photo and it started to rain. It would come and go–starting off as a downpour, but then easing into a soft mist. We were able to finish all the photos with family & friends, and next we were off to adventure around the lake with the couple.

Not long into adventuring, it started to torrential rain! There was no one within miles of us, and all we could hear was the intense sound of the water on the lake–it was incredibly romantic. We continued to take photos, and Al & AJ decided to have their first dance in the rain. We put some music on, and they danced until there was no light left.

This will forever be one of my favourite weddings. Not only because it was so intimate & intentional, but because Al & AJ embraced the rain. No one wishes for rain on their wedding day–but these two made the best of it. Their clothes were soaked, their hair was wet, and Al’s makeup was washing off….but their experience was unique, and I bet no one has wedding photos like they do!
